Description
The Four Freedoms located in Evansville, In was printed on these four limestone columns to commemorate Franklin D. Roosevelt's 1941 State of the Union Address. The speech was delivered 11 months before America declared war on Japan. The first two freedoms, of speech and religion, are known from the constitution. But because Roosevelt endorsed a broader human right to economic security, the latter two were added, Freedom from Oppression and Freedom from Fear, which created the Four Freedoms.
